Materials

  • Wood Tile Board w/ 9 Tiles - Plaid
  • Acrylic Paint (Ash) - FolkArt
  • Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium
  • Carta Bella: Old World Travel
    • Ephemera
    • Sticker
    • Papers (Globes, Border Strips, Old World Map, Post Cards)
  • 3/8” Wood Spools - Lara's Craft
  • 3/4"  Square Wood Blocks - Lara's Craft
  • Photo Copied Photos (Dry toner copies work the best)
  • Foam Brush
  • Matte Mod Podge
  • 527 Glue
  • 3D Foam Squares

Directions

  1. Set tiles aside and paint the entire board  as well as two wood blocks and eight spools, using Ash acrylic paint. Let dry.
  2. Put a thick layer of the photo transfer medium on the front of the photos, you shouldn't’t be able to see your photo through the medium.  Place on the photos face down onto the wood tiles and smooth out any air bubbles or extra medium.  Let sit for 24 hours.
  3. Remove the paper backing of photos by getting a foam brush slightly wet and gently rubbing in a circular motion.  Make sure you don’t rub too hard, as that will remove the photo.  You might have to repeat this step several times to get all the paper backing off.
  4. Apply a layer of Matte Mod Podge over the top of the photo tiles.
  5. Cut the desired Old World Travel papers to fit the remaining tiles. Adhere paper to the tiles using Matte Mod Podge.
  6. Carefully paint the edges of the tiles using Ash acrylic paint.  If some of the paint gets on the photo/paper wipe it slightly with your finger, this will give it a distressed look.
  7. Embellish the tiles with stickers, using 3D foam squares to pop some of the stickers up to add dimension
  8. Making sure sawtooth hanger is on the top backside, layout tiles on board, deciding which tiles you want to be raised.  Use the painted wood squares, as well as, the paint spools to raise your tiles.
  9. Glue everything in place with the 527 Glue, let dry.
  10. Display.
