Materials

  • Natural Wood Plaque- PAC/2
  • 12" Ruler
  • Osnaburg Fat Quarter
  • 1.5" Wood Knob- Lara's Crafts
  • Folkart Acrylic paint:
    • Parchment
    • Raw Umber
  • 3-ply Jute Twine
  • Scissors
  • Paint Brush
  • Glue Gun/Sticks
  • Small Barrel Curling Iron

Directions

  1. Using Parchment acrylic paint and a paint brush, paint approximately 5" at the top on the plaque. Also, paint the back side of the 12" ruler and the entire surface of the 1.5" knob. Allow time for all pieces to dry thoroughly.
  2. Then, using Raw Umber acrylic paint and a paint brush, lightly paint the edges of the 12" ruler and the top and side edges of the 'Santa's hat'. Allow time to dry thoroughly.
  3. Once dry, adhere the 12" ruler to create the brim of 'Santa's hat' using a hot glue gun.
  4. Using a scissors, cut a small slit into the osnaburg fat quarter then, tear a strip off. Continue until you've torn the entire fat quarter into 1-2" strips.
  5. Start adhering the strips onto the plaque using a hot glue gun. See photo for reference. Placement of the pieces can be random. Trim and fray the ends of the canvas strips to resemble 'Santa's beard'. Add extra trimming underneath the top layers of the canvas strips to create more dimension to 'Santa's Beard'.
  6. Using a small barrel curling iron, start curling the canvas strips to create a more life like look. If the curls turn out to tight that is fine because they will loosely fall into the look your are trying to achieve.
  7. Using a hot glue gun, adhere the 1.5" knob in the center of the plaque between the brim of the hat and the top edges of the canvas strips.
  8. Cut approximately 18" of 3-ply Jute Twine off the spool. Tie each end onto the hanging loops allready attached to the back of the plaque. Be sure to double knot the twine and pull tightly.
  9. Display.
